2011 Season Update

It's been a long time since I last posted, but I thought that today would be a great day to get back up to date.

This evening, we face Haverford at 5:30 pm, our first match during the challenging month of March. To say that I've been impressed with the focus and work ethic of this team would be an understatement. Our early season results (3-0, 9-0 in doubles) are a direct result of the leadership and hard work that the guys on the team have put in. Whether it's been morning lifts, afternoon practices, intersquad matches, conditioning, these guys have embraced it and come out stronger because of it.

Hard work is essential, but you also need to have talent, and this years team is as deep a team as I've ever coached. With the core of our team back (All-American and All-Conference selection Tommy Meyer, All-SCIAC selection Uday Singh, Alex Groth, All-SCIAC selection Frankie Allinson, Max Sabel, Ramsey Bernard, Drew Cohn, Kevin Prescott, Joey Debruin, and of course Chase Dyer), we also have a few crucial additions. Seniors Alden Williford and 2009 All-SCIAC selection Nick Tagliarino return for their senior year, joining freshmen Chris Wiechert and Mike Meyer. Senior Ben Wienstein is back as a strength and fitness coach, transforming our morning workouts.

Through February, the Hellhens rolled through three straight nationally ranked opponents to open the season. After a season-opening 8-1 road win over no. 26 Whittier College, the Hens returned to Pauley to host no. 30 Brandeis, coming out on top with an identical 8-1 result. Next up was no. 27 Mary Washington, always a tough matchup. The Hellhens continued their strong play with a resounding 8-1 win.

The season continues on Tuesday night against Haverford, and then a slew of Spring Break matches. The 4th Annual Stag-Hen Invitational takes place March 11-12, with three dual matches in 24 hours. The Hens will host no. 9 Trinity (TX) at 10 am on Friday, and then either no. 4 Emory or Swarthmore at 3 pm.
