On Friday, September 9, we will meet as a team for the first time this fall. We'll start official practices on Monday. We'll be going MWF for 4 weeks, culminating with the Fall ITA tournament at the Claremont Colleges, September 30-October 2.
I've been chomping at the bit to start practicing ever since the end of our season. We accomplished so many great things last season, and we ended it feeling motivated to reach and own the next level. Congratulations to Tommy Meyer for his top 10 national singles ranking (#13 in doubles with Frankie not too shabby either), Quarterfinal performance at NCAA's, and another Singles All-American notch in his belt. Congrats also to Chris Wiechert, who was named the ITA West Region and National Rookie of the Year. There were so many great highlights from last season: Wins over Redlands, Williams, etc., appearance in the SCIAC Championship match, first NCAA appearance in 10 years, first top 10 finish since the heyday of the early 90's...
But, we're not fixated on the past. We're strengthened by it, motivated by the future, and living in the present. I have never seen such cohesion and drive in a team as I have seen this summer and so far this fall. The guys have been getting out there every day since campus opened. The current team dynamic is incredible considering that we have a crop of freshmen out there just learning the ropes. This means that the leadership has been second to none.
Lastly, we have a new assistant coach this year, Andrew Thomson. He's a 2010 Middlebury grad, and a key member of their undefeated NCAA Championship team. He's already had an impressive impact on our team and I know that he will be a huge addition to our program.
I will do my best this season to stay current with posting this year.
Sincerely,
Ben
