Coming off of their first NCAA appearance in a decade, the Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team was ranked 8 in the nation in the most recent ITA pre-season national rankings.
Last season, the Sagehens posted a 17-6 overall record and notched their first top ten final season ranking since 1994. In the west region, Pomona-Pitzer is ranked third, behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (1) and UC Santa Cruz (2). Last season, the Sagehens finished 2nd in the SCIAC behind CMS and fell to UC Santa Cruz in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.
Individually, two-time All-American senior Tommy Meyer, who finished ranked 9 in the nation is ranked 20 heading into the 2012 season. Meyer is ranked 7 in the west in singles and 15 in doubles with partner Chris Wiechert. Fresh off of his National Rookie of the Year award, Wiechert is ranked 14 in the west region in singles. Joining Meyer and Wiechert in the regional rankings are junior Max Sabel (20) and freshman Connor Hudson (22). In doubles, Meyer and Wierchert are joined by Sabel and senior Uday Singh (12).
The 2012 season will kick off on February 4 against powerhouse Azusa Pacific in Azusa, and then the team will travel to St. Peter, MN for the ITA Division III Men's Indoor National Champions, February 24-26 where they are the number 5 seed.
